I don't know my onions...
This is a detail of the head of an Allium hollandicum 'Purple Sensation'. By mid-spring, packed, rounded heads in a glorious violet-purple stand on strong stems that reach up to 90cm (3ft) high. The leaves are bright green and the flowers soft to the touch, with lots of petals.
Of course you all know I didn't write that. For two years now I thought this gorky swaying thingy was a wild onion - or perhaps a triffid.
