Grandma's Chair

When I was a child this chair was in Grandma's house, painted a deep maroon colour, as was most of her other wooden furniture, the colour was such a part of Grandma that we referred to it (affectionately) in the family as 'Grandma Red'.

When she died in the 1980's I was only about 8, she left this chair to me as I loved it. My Mum decided to strip the paint of all of the furniture that Grandma left and it took her MONTHS! Each piece of furniture had been painted pretty much every year in whatever had been the colour of the year for Grandma. So in stripping back this chair my Mum found a dove grey colour, purple, Green, orange and many other colours finishing in Grandma Red!

Grandma was also tiny, so she took a saw to the legs and chopped off several inches from each leg so that her feet would touch the floor. It has meant that it feels a bit more like a nursing chair but I wouldn't change it for the world, to me it's priceless!
