Lancaster TX264 Memorial

I've passed this memorial many times and wondered what it was all about. Today I stopped to read the plaque;

"Lancaster TX264

They died when their aircraft crashed near the summit of Beinn Eighe, Torridon 14 March 1951.

A direct result of the difficulties experienced by rescue teams attempting to reach the site of this crash the Air Ministry directed that training and equipment of RAF mountain rescue teams should be dramatically improved enabling them to operate in the most hazardous conditions.

To acknowledge that directive the motto of RAF mountain rescue is WHENSOEVER"
