Illuminating
A day away from the usual stuff (mostly), since I was at a leadership foundation day for their scheme supporting women in higher ed.
Nearly 200 people there, and as usual a day out of the hurly burly gave me a chance to think laterally and get my head straight(er), and the speakers gave a lot of good advice and ideas, but every now and then I had to remind myself that I was there as a mentor and not to plan my future career.....it was rather odd to realise with a jolt that I'm not the student or postdoc I still am in my mind!
Met lots of really nice interesting women and enjoyed meeting my 'mentee' who was lovely and fizzing with enthusiasm. Reminded me why I love the job.
On the way back to the office to go through the backlog that had accumulated (there's always a downside to being out all day!) I passed the Quartermile offices with the zebra guarding the skyscanner offices....all super cool Google style play spaces. Wonder what it would be like if we moved into offices like this?
