Jack Vance: Tales Of The Dying Earth
For the past week I have been held tight in the grip of the undisputed master of fantasy writing, Jack Vance. For perhaps the six or seventh time I have read this book. A mixture of tragicomic vignettes, high magic, an earth mellowing under a dying sun and characters displaying an eloquence worthy of Shakespeare (even the demi-human creatures such a pelgranes, visps and deodands). Utterly transportive, sublime and a high watermark in literature. I urge you all to seek out a copy and be enthralled. A certain Cugel the Clever, he of long limbs, loping gait and endless scheming awaits.
