The Makare
One of the rivers inside the Nilgala forest, Ampara flows steadily & it hits a collection of huge rocks along the way & all of a sudden, the mammoth river dissapears. Then after a long distance of empty space, the river surfuces again. The locals in the area call this place "The Makare".
When rain is scarece during the months of July & August, the water levels of the river goes down. If you're adventureous enough, you can get close to the rocks & go underneath them & see the river flowing below.
This can be seen from the other end as well, which is one of the edges of "Senanayaka Samudraya". If you take a boat ride to experience "The Crossing", make sure it's a full day's ride so that you can witness "The Makare" as well.
