Cadel's last Tour Down Under
Today we enjoyed international cycling action a short walk from home. This year the Tour Down Under passed within 150m of our street. We walked up to the Belair Triangle for a broader view to catch them sweeping around a corner. That gave me the opportunity to select this shot where Cadel Evans is the rider in red, on the left hand side.
Cadel is the first (and only) Australian to win the biggest cycling race in the world, the Tour de France. The 37-year-old, who won the Tour de France in 2011, told a news conference from the world championships in Spain that he would call it quits after riding the 2015 South Australian Tour Down Under and the inaugural Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road one-day race on February 1, 2015.
In the TDU Stage 2 today, the pros make their way from King William Rd, Unley, through Belair, Upper Sturt, Crafers, Summertown, Uraidla, Basket Range, Balhannah, Littlehampton and Hahndorf before a loop circuit of Mylor, Aldgate and Stirling. This is the last time I will see Cadel ride in what is his second to last race of his wonderful career.
