Introducing Fenella Mo Jagger
When Nikki gave birth to the wee man in Edinburgh she was encouraged to spend the first couple of days in the birth centre while he developed a good latch. This time, however, we were back home within twelve hours of the first contraction! The contrast is amazing. It's so great to spend the first few days together at home, affording us all the chance to get to know our wee lass from the very beginning.
I must admit, she seems a little calmer than the wee man was, although perhaps that's because she's in a permanent state of food heaven!
Now that the wee girl is born, I've been able to shed my pregnancy beard. Nine months of facial hair has been shed. Or in the wee man's words, 'Your face is empty' He certainly has a way with words.
Despite his ear infections, the wee man has handled the arrival of a baby sister remarkably well. He hasn't exhibited any sense of jealously or resentment, although it helps having Gooma here to dote on her two grandchildren.
We took the wee girl to see the paediatrician today. All is well with her, but the subtle differences in US/UK language made it tricky for me.
'Sit her here and place her buns to the right' said the nurse. Buns? What are they? She couldn't mean her boobs, could she? I tried shifting her hands over as a makeshift token.
I was then told to hold her like a football while she took her temperature. Did she really mean for me to drop her to the floor and place my foot on her back?
Whatever next?
