Stranger Than Fiction
Today I had to visit our old house (that we still own, haven't been able to sell and reluctantly still rent out, seven years since we left...) to sort out landlord's certificates, out-of-control gardens and threats to disconnect utilities due to an admin error... happy days...
The bright spot in all this was that the house isn't far from the National Media Museum in Bradford, which is currently showing an exhibition that I wanted to see as part of my current photography studies: Joan Fontcuberta's Stranger Than Fiction.
Mr Fontcuberta specialises in elaborate photographic hoaxes that play on our perception that 'the camera never lies' (of course it does!)... he mixes fact and fiction and plays with how we believe something is real because we can see a photo of it. His work includes mythical animals like the above specimen. It's very meticulously done, I'll give him that. It's all very clever… some of it good-clever, some of it clever-clever, if you know what I mean.
I'd better write up a review of it for my studies now...
