Boats and Bridges

Returning through Birmingham on Sunday, another part of the brickwork on the underpass reminded me how Birmingham's transport links were crucial to its growth as an industrial centre - particularly its network of canals.
The accompanying inscription reads: 'Thence boats to Warwick and to Stratford go/And thence where silver Thames and Avon flow.' The words are from A Poetic Survey round Birmingham by James Bisset (1762 - 1832), and other parts of this poem appear elsewhere around the city - I spotted some near Selly Oak station, so may include a photo of that next time I'm out that way.
