Koshihikari rice
Yesterday, I bought a new bag of rice for my last two weeks of stay here in Japan. I usually don't bother what kind of rice I buy (for as long as they're cheap, hehe...), but this bag caught my attention. For one it was not that expensive (¥780 for 2 kg - that's about P150 a kilo, while other 'brands' can go past ¥1,000), and two, it's got katakana - not hiragana - written on it, which I can read (albeit verryy sloowllyyy). And it says right there, in big, bold script - ko shi hi ka ri - the most famous japonica rice variety, used for making sushi and other Japanese treats! For all I know, I could be eating koshihikari rice here everyday, but now, at least, I'm really certain :-)
