Goosanders

A bright sunny morning but quite chilly. About time we went to Lower  Tamar Lake to see what’s about. We could see great crested grebe and goosanders in the distance but as it was very breezy on the damn we walked on to the hide. We joined the couple already there who told us there was a  fox on the opposite bank stalking the ducks. There was a bit of a commotion as the ducks swam away from him. He sat in the sun for a while and then slunk quietly away. A bit further round the heron suddenly flew up in a loud squawk as the fox came upon him.  The goosanders came over en masse from the far side of the lake and gave us a lovely display of synchronised diving. There must have been about 30 in total. There were also some tufted ducks, teal, a few snipe and the usual mallards, coot and moorhen. On the walk back to the car we watched a posse of long-tailed tits. They are such charming, cheeky little birds.
