Spurge laurel

The woodland at the nature reserve has a nice scattering of Spurge laurel, Daphne laureola, and most of the plants are currently absolutely bursting with flowers. You couldn't really cram any more flowers into this stem, where they are beautifully framed by the shiny deep green leaves. I'm sure people notice the plants, but I think very few bother to look closely at the dainty green flowers. If they were not green, like the much rarer cousin of this species, Daphne mezereum, found at one of our nearby reserves, I'm sure they would be seen as much more exotic.
