The end of Stopsley as a village

I live in Stopsley, on the northern edge of Luton. Stopsley was a village in its own right and anyone over a certain age still says 'going to the village' when talking about a trip to the shops. It was incorporated into Luton in 1933, but that didn't really change its character but the building that you can see the picture, both under construction and in its completed state was the turning point. Built in 1959, Jansel House was the headquarters of the building firm H. C. Janes Ltd. It replaced a farm, Pond Farm which stood to the right of this new building and most of Jansel House was built on Pond Meadow. Today, there is a parade of shops on the ground floor and HM Customs and Excise occupy the rest of the building. You can't call yourself a village when her Maj chooses to house one of her groups of minions on your doorstep.

Off to Sue's for cream tea. An unexpected invitation. I wonder what she wants? A burglar alarm installed perhaps. That will make 3 if I include my own.
