The Toddy man

We arrived in south India 2 days ago and are staying in a home stay  by the beach at Mararikulam,just north of Alleppy in Kerala. The toddy man climbs this coconut palm every morning to collect the juice from the cut stem of a coconut flower. He leaves a clay pot for the sap to run into and taps the stem with a bone to encourage the sap to rise. This sap is then fermented to make the local brew. It is DISGUSTING !
