The life & times of Jacks

Wassail! and The Slide of Doom!

I had quite a busy Saturday this weekend.  Up and out to meet with some friends and their kids for lunch which was a lovely opportunity to catch up.

Then after a wander down an incredibly busy as always Oxford St I met Steve and we went to Rotherhithe Wassail again.  First stop with our other friends for nibbles and wine.  It was the first time I have had any alcohol since New Years day and that first glass definitely went to my head.

The wassail is such good fun.  It is essentially an ancient ceremony to toast and wish well to the fruit bearing trees for the upcoming season.

It was fun and then we went down the Hobbit hole which is really a Thames Tunnel shaft - it is a bit eerie and creepy but cool to be under there but also pretty cool.

One of the girls that was there last year took a pic with her phone and in the pic it looks like there is a weirdly dressed man however none of us can remember anyone being there dressed like that - freaky - perhaps it was a ghost?

We then enjoyed the view of the Thames and London from the South bank before Paul showed us some of the other interesting things around Rotherhithe.  This picture was taken in the graveyard of a small church.  Oddly they have put a Childrens climbing frame and slide there where the slide stops inches from graves.  Seems an odd choice of place for play equipment.

A couple more drinks back at P&As and then homeward bound back to KL.

Here is to Wassailing in 2016!
