Village green
This is the village green at North Littleton. Although slightly outside the Vale of Evesham, Cleeve Prior and the Littletons historically belonged to Evesham Abbey and were largely concerned with market gardening. North Littleton is a very small village in the bottom of a valley, and was renowned at one time for the number of its fruit orchards. Most of these have now been grubbed up for pasture or housing, but there are still a few, of which one lies beyond the gate at the back of the village green.
I also took a few shots this morning of Middle Littleton tithe barn, where the tithes of produce owed to the Abbey would have been stored. The barn is now owned by the National Trust; the pond is not actually a pond, but a very large puddle that has formed in the field because of the amount of rain we have recently suffered enjoyed.
