Running Couple

Sandridge Bridge crosses from South Bank in Melbourne to the other side of the Yarra River.

The Travellers, a series of giant steel sculptures on the bridge records the history of Victoria’s original Indigenous inhabitants and all immigrant nations who have helped shape the diverse society of modern Victoria. There are 128 glass panels in total and 10 structures running the length of the Sandridge Bridge recording the details of Indigenous peoples and immigrant arrivals, by country of origin since 1788 from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe.

This sculpture is titled Running Couple.
They came from the same village far away, but never met in the haste of departure, not even on the boat. Since their encounter on the banks of the Yarra River, they now run together chasing the wind and the sun – Nadim Karam.

The cityscape of Melbourne is a fitting backdrop to this impressive bridge and it's important structures symbolising the development of a multicultural Australia
