A chance encounter
I had a few household items to sort this morning - with a little help from 2 friends - which were a direct result of emptying my living room prior to its being repainted. Never again!!!!!
The walk this afternoon was wonderful with the sun "sort of" shining and the leaves everywhere showing off their new iridescent colours. Unfortunately the wet weather followed by the warmth also had various wild life venturing out and it all proved too much for Bruce who once more appeared to have gone deaf, particularly when deep in amongst rabbit warrens! I took a few photos which I was reasonably happy with and then came home for a cuppa and a chance to do some gardening.
The rockery in the front desperately needed looking at and as I was kneeling down weeding, I glanced up and noticed that "something" was sticking out of a bluebell flower and looking slightly odd. On closer inspection I wondered if it was a butterfly and quietly went into the house for the camera thinking to myself, If it is not there when I get back then it wasn't to be! But it was - it hadn't moved. Excitedly I took a few photos but was scared to move anything from around about in case I frightened it away. I had no idea if my point and shoot had captured it well enough as it was so pale. However, I felt I had taken enough photos - and it still hadn't moved. I then began to wonder if it was a dead butterfly, or moth, which had become stuck in the flower's trumpet while drinking too greedily from the nectar. I continued with the weeding and after a while looked up again, expecting to still see it there - but it was gone.... it had been alive! I then experienced one of those moments eloquently described by PaulFS and became quite excited to see if I had indeed captured it in focus. As you can see I did, and you can even see its furry front and legs as it holds on while guzzling the nectar.
So there you have it, my chance encounter, and I would love to know what it is if anyone can help with ID, even if it is very ordinary.
