Going, going.... not gone yet.
The coal fired Cockenzie Power Station shut down almost two years ago and is in the process of being demolished. Probably about two thirds has already gone and when the chimneys fall the Forth will lose a landmark that has been there for over 50 years. I am wondering what has been done to protect the peregrine falcons who had a nest on one of the buildings which still stands.
While walking along the exposed coast from Levenhall to Port Seton today it was a relief to escape from the bitterly cold wind into the warmth and be grateful that there is still electricity from elsewhere to heat and light buildings. Many in Scotland have had power failures sometimes lasting days and engineers have been working around the clock in high winds, rain, sleet, snow, lightning and freezing temperatures and also having to contend with fallen trees and difficult access to the power lines. It has not been an easy time for them trying to restore the power that is so essential for our lives now.
