'tache!

As a rule, I shave on the days when I have client meetings. But I also shave for parents' evenings, and, to be honest, any other occasion where I feel that a bit of smartness might not go amiss.

So, over Christmas, I had maybe three weeks without shaving but tomorrow I do have a meeting, so it was time to get busy with the (poorly-named) safety razor. However, the Minx was keen to see me with a moustache and so, entirely for her amusement, I left the top lip fully clad.

Matters started to go awry when I realised that a trip to Booths was required for some lunch things. So, along with Dan and somewhat self-consciously, I set off up the hill for a quick shop, fervently hoping I wouldn't bump into anyone I know.

For the rest of the afternoon, I let the moustache lie. Occasionally I'd catch a glimpse of my reflection and it was like seeing a portrait of an ancestor. After a while, though, when I'd kind of got used to it, I found myself thinking that I'd grow it and keep it when I was older.

This evening, I drove up to Glasgow for tomorrow's meeting, and I had to pop by someone's house to pick up the keys to their company flat. We'd been talking for a couple of minutes before she said "Nice moustache, by the way." So, now I'm a guy with a 'tache. (But not for long!)
