The Icy Waters of the Firth

Thankyou everyone for your kind comments and stars/hearts yesterday.

By the time we went out for our afternoon walk today it was very cold and wintry with a strong, icy wind. But I was wrapped up well with my gloves, scarf, woolly hat, waterproof trousers and boots and my cosy, fleece lined coat. I am prepared for anything I thought, it can rain, hail, sleet or snow and I shall remain warm and dry. But I had not bargained for my husband's,  very annoying reassuring concern for my well being.

We were enjoying our walk, the dogs were chasing the ball and each other, that is when they were not eating everything and anything, including a washed up bird's skull and feathers, when I noticed, on the horizon a large black cloud moving swiftly towards us. It started to get very dark and the wind whipped up, we must get back to the car I thought. I called the dogs and we started running back. I was holding in my gloved hands the bird's skull, the ball thrower and ball and the leads when my phone rang.

Shall I ignore it I thought, just keep on running back to the car, but I am of the generation who thinks that all phone calls are important, life threatening even so off came the warm gloves, exposing my fingers to the elements.

I put down the skull, Poppy immediately picked up the prize and ran off with it, I dropped the ball and ball thrower, Bud ran off with the ball, I unzipped my warm, cosy, fleece lined coat to expose the inner pocket which contained the phone. By this time my fingers were numb, but I took the phone out of its cover to answer it, it stopped ringing. The snow was beginning to swirl around me by this time, the dogs were disappearing into the mist intent on continuing their walk. I phoned home, "Did you ring?", "Yes, I just thought you ought to know that there is a big dark cloud on the horizon and you ought to get home!"

I don't think you want to hear my reply, needless to say it was brief and to the point.
