And still it comes

The wind has got up again providing a suitably impressive swell on the West coast.
Not so impressive is the direction that it is coming from. With a little bit of East in the wind our chimney almost goes into reverse. Foolishly yesterday I brought some kippers off the fish man (who bizarrely buys his fish on the east coast of Scotland then drives across Scotland and gets on the ferry to sell it here) but if only I had purchased the herrings, I'd have been able to peat smoke them myself.
Gets too smoky, open the window to let cold air in, to need more fire to make more smoke and the circle goes on. The romantic ideal of burning our own peat for the heating and hot water is wearing a little thin today !
