Microclimate

After learning my lesson last year when I got stuck in snow on the way home from work, I now keep a good eye on the weather. My route involves crossing from one valley to another over a fell top. The road I usually take is slightly higher than the alternative route, and it also involves a steeper climb and several hairpin bends than the longer route, which winds its way more gently over a longer distance. It was raining heavily with gale force winds the entire journey home. When I got to the turn off for the road 'over the top', the temperature was dropping and there was a hint of sleet amongst the showers. So I took the longer route and thank goodness I did, because this is what met me. I did manage to get over with only a few wheel spins thankfully. I don't think I would have made it the other way. This photo was down the other side after the worst part (couldn't stop there!). The snow was blowing and drifting. Thankful for my trusty Yaris and its winter tires once again! Of course the snow quickly. disappeared to be replaced by rain once back down into the valley.
