Goubert Market Day
An adventure in the maze that is Goubert Market.
Someone told me it used to be a prison and now the cells are converted into vendor stalls, but I haven't seen this verified online (the internet is always right). Each stall presented something different - grains, dried veg, fresh veg, garland strands, chicken bits... on and on.. and with the tarps hanging above the narrow walkways, the colors shifted with each footfall.
I went with a group of foreign tourists as part of a South Indian cooking class through the Sita Cultural Center. Back at the center with our freshly purchased wares, we made a fabulous lunch of white rice, sambar, kathirikai gothsu (an eggplant/potato curry dish), chicken masala, and carrot halwa for dessert. I hadn't felt so happy in a long time. There's really nothing in the world like cooking healthy, tasty food in a kitchen full of people from all different languages and cultures. Absolutely glorious!
