My great, great grandfather Joseph Jameson
My nanna has been clearing out her cupboards since my grandpa died. She's lived in that house for 60 years so found lots of interesting things hidden away. We spent some time talking about my great, great grandpa, Joseph Jameson. He was a re-upholsterer by trade and this is a photograph of him outside of his shop in South Shields with 3 of his sons. The smallest child sat in front of him was my great grandpa who died when I was a child. This photo was taken around 1910. The other 2 photographs are portraits of him at different ages. He was also a Methodist preacher for 47 years and worked in the Sunday School on Queen Street. This is his bible which he has written his name in and dated August 1888. He has also made many notes and annotations throughout the Bible for his teaching. To the right is a tribute to him cut out from the local newspaper from about 1930. It describes the good work he did around the town, caring for poor children and arranging donations so that they had shoes on their feet. He was very fond of the sea and regularly swam in the sea at South Shields, sadly he never returned from his last swim aged 67.
I would love to look into my family tree more thoroughly, however all of the archives online cost a monthly subscription fee so I will probably wait until I have time to make the most of it. A lot of my family photographs were lost in a fire at my great grandmothers house in 1945, these few items happened to be rescued from the fire.
