Black Pepper

I have a couple of sneaky little mice who have found their way into my bird aviary.

Why wouldn't they go there ...there is always fresh seed and water.

Someone told me that the mice hate black pepper ... I have bought some to sprinkle near their holes but is it going to upset my birds??

Has anyone else heard that black pepper deters mice??
