Golden pheasant

As mentioned by Paladian, today we went into the Museum to check out the Iridescence Exhibit and the Biodiversity Gallery. It was thick with screaming and noisy school children in most of the museum - but not in the special Iridescence Gallery.

For centuries scientists have been fascinated by the lure of iridescent colours displayed in the natural world. It is a phenomenon unlike and unmatched by the artist’s palette, and inspires curiosity and delight.

The exhibition included iridescent examples seen in Aboriginal pearl shells, opalised ammonite fossils, Birds of Paradise, and beetles and butterflies, showcasing the many iridescent qualities found in nature.

This was one of my favourite exhibits, the Golden Pheasant. We do not have any pheasants in Australia, and this one comes from China.
