Walking
We walked around Dufton Pike. It was cold, windy, and VERY invigorating. The sun kept sliding in and out of the clouds, and was very pretty.
This is a view up Great Rundale, at the back of Dufton Pike. The crags at the head of Great Rundale are mainly Carboniferous limestone, and in the 18th and 19th centuries Great Rundale was a busy, industrial place. Adits (entrances to underground mines) were driven into the valley sides to work mineral veins for lead ore, and later, barytes. This was not visible from where we were, but I think that it is amazing that this quiet, secluded valley was a hive in industry!!!
