The Fairy Tree

We heard yesterday that a big tree had been damaged in the village park after the winds, and it was possibly "The Fairy Tree". It's a field, not a park, but the farmer lets it be used for village events, football etc. The Fairy Tree was a horse chestnut with low hanging branches and the kids could hide in there as we watched from afar.

The biggest possible branch has come down, or a sub-tree trunk, and a whole side of it is now empty. That is likely to shift the balance and possible risk it falling the other way one day. A closer blip can be seen here.

I heard today that someone from the botanical gardens had once be to see it and suggested it may be the oldest horse chestnut in Scotland! We flew our Hogwarts Wizards around this tree in a community film a few years ago so at least we'll remember it. I guess when or if the leaves come back then we will not see the damaged side from the village, lets hope it can continue for a while.
