Dealing w the day's -10C + windchill

The 60x zoom of the Panasonic Lumix DMC ZS40 (with a little help from Lightroom) is quite a day to day pocket camera to have during light walks when a DSLR can be too cumbersome. I wonder why the zoom on the video has more range than the stills.
