Truly Blippin' Marvelous

Springerville Federal Building

Now what it says on the tin.The local newspaper,White Mountain Independent, featured a photograph of this building when trees grew across the front providing shade and the double front door was larger and in proportion with the rest of the building instead of this smaller modern door. The original frame of the old door is clearly visible. The interior is little changed from when the building was completed in 1937: wicket serving windows instead of an open counter and some original post office boxes. There is a strong room from the days when payrolls were processed through the post office as there were no banks in the area (which I find hard to believe). Stepping into the lobby is like travelling back to a gentler time with lovely wood work with old fashioned lettering; and artwork hung to Treasury Department Procurement Division specifications.
