Watch that road
A warm day, a cool temperate rainforest. A perfect combination.
Determined to show all the best of Tasmania off to Tierney, we set off to the Mt Field National Park, to explore some waterfalls and admire some ferns. A pretty walk through some beautiful bush, even the 90 minute drive home in a hot car with no aircon couldn't spoil it.
Half way through we had some lunchtime entertainment when we stopped by the demonstration climometer. It's a device that measures the heights of trees using simple maths, and while we sat there at least three groups came by. The kids didn't really get it, a group of 'youths' complained that the 'telescope' wasn't working, and someone got it right but had serious self-doubts about it.
We meandered on through the Tall Trees Walk, and eventually reached the end destination, a lovely waterfall. Here we found the broken-telescope-youths enjoying the cools waters after a hot walk, with much shrieking and giggling. We turned around and wandered back, stopping to enjoy an icypole at the info centre before heading home.
An evening with my family, including the nieceynephs, and then we stumbled home and off to well deserved sleep.
