Rose with a history

I've dinner at friend's place tonight. This rose was rescued from a destroyed home where the land was badly damaged in the earthquakes.

It's unusual in it's formation, has a divine scent and can certainly be described a survivor. I smiled as I blipped it as it's a great symbol of tenacity, beauty and hope.

As I thought about the horror of events today in Paris, I'm left wondering what the value is of taking "my rights" to the nth degree? I know in my own life I gain little of real value if I make a point, that while strictly speaking is 'right', yet adds nothing to the value of relationships around me.

What a different place we could all make our world if only we could show more kindness, tolerance and respect.

To me real wisdom and strength is knowing when to assert your rights and when to quietly hold them close, not because you're fearful and cowering but because you know who you are. And you're big enough to allow other people - different to you - be who they are too.

One results in peace, the other an insatiable rage.
