Aquilegia vulgaris - Columbine - Granny's Nightcap

The name Columbine comes from the Latin Columba meaning dove or dove-like, maybe referring to the curled wing-like petals
.
Columbine grows all over our garden, in the nicks, on walls, along the edge of the drive. When I collect the copious seeds and sow them, I get nothing. How hard can it be?

It has much significance myth and medicine. Sacred to Venus so that to carry a posy of Columbine was supposed to arouse the affections of the desired person. Its petals symbolise the seven gifts of the spirit: wisdom, understanding, wonder and awe, right judgement, knowledge, courage, and reverence. The famous herbalist Culpepper advised that it eased the pains of childbirth, but today it's more in use as an astringent or diuretic. Not recommended to be used in ignorance, as it has a high toxicity which proves fatal.

To me, it's just a special flower in a heavenly colour.
