The World Is Still Turning

After my difficult visit to the Registrar's Office yesterday, I made a start on the list of organisations which must be notified that Dad has passed away.  Today it was the Department of Work and Pensions.  This was a good one to begin with, as they have a special Bereavement Service line and the person I spoke to was extremely helpful and sympathetic.  I don't need to do any more about state pension matters for Mum now, and the DWP will deal with things as quickly as they can.  With every task that''s crossed off the list, the reality of Dad's death sinks in a little more and the dull ache in my chest gets heavier.  I miss him so much.

But the world is still turning, and work now features large in my daily life again.  I realise with some alarm that time is rapidly ticking down to my leaving date and I haven't done anything about my own financial planning.  I will wait until the funeral has taken place and my co-executor duties are in hand, and then I must give some attention to myself for the first time in many months.
