from where I am today

Pub No 9

Because the weather was so poor I returned home a day early, but it was just the same here, cold and wet, so I thought I'd make this b&w to reflect our summer so far.

Pub No 9 is "Element" and it seeks to stand slightly apart from the crowd. You get the sense that this is a place in which you might feel more at home enjoying a cocktail or a glass of champagne rather than a pint of something gold or brown: though beers and lagers are included in the wide range of drinks on offer. The food menu offers a variety of dishes made from fresh ingredients.

Regular visitors to Rose Street will remember Element as Breck's. This was a pub with an island bar in the front room which was named after Alan Breck, the fictional Jacobite who accompanied David Balfour on his trek across Scotland in Robert Louis Stevenson's novel "Kidnapped".

Those with even longer memories may recall that before it became Breck's this was The Goblet, which had two separate bars.
