Had to be quick

Saw this chap on the village green - but as I had pooch with me I knew that this would be a very short encounter - sure enough he was gone seconds after this.
Many moons ago we saw a heron on the banks of the Kent in Kendal - just as we were watching it it darted forward & speared a rat with its beak - stamped on it & swallowed it - not a behaviour I'd heard of or ever managed to see again. 
This chap was stomping around the field by the little beck - but had probably wandered over from the pond.
