Narrows

If you look at yesterday's photo and imagine off the right hand side of the line of trees, there is an entrance to a canyon with a river flowing through it. On the other side of this narrow gorge the canyon opens up into a wide area of fields where oats, corn, mustard, and wheat are grown.
We also went up to a peña (like a narrow peak or point) where petroglyphs of earlier civilizations have been found.
The village of Apoala has only about 250 people, and many of the older people don't speak Spanish, only Mixteco. As they are walking along the streets talking, the women are weaving baskets, not even looking at what they are doing, and of course we bought some!
