Mono Monday :: NEW :: MM49

Orpington is getting a NEW cinema. Not just any cinema but a 7 screen thing.

Some of us remember when we last had such a thing. The EMI Commodore closed it’s doors back in 1982, just after I moved to the area. It had opened in 1933 when the older Palace Cinema (later know as the Carlton) plied it’s trade at the other end of the High Street. The Palace/Carlton lived between 1911 and 1959.

To make way for this new complex of picture house and retail outlets the old Job Centre needed to be demolished. As there’s no jobs in Orpington I guess it hasn’t been missed.

Thanks to all who made kind comments and gave words of encouragement for my Blip yesterday. I have survived my first full gym session although I’m aware tonight will be the big test as I start to stiffen up. Just as well I’m into London tomorrow to visit the British School of Osteopaths…
