Christmas Box

Christmas Box also known as Sweet Box, Sarcococca confusa, is a small evergreen shrub with simple, leathery leaves and tiny, fragrant creamy-white flowers in winter or spring, followed by red, purple or black berries which may persist into the following winter.

This one, a generous present some years ago always flowers in December. This year, with everything else in the garden flowering early, it is only now starting to show flowers!

The scent is extremely strong, even overpowering and when left in our small conservatory, fills the flat with its sweetness.
