Sheltering in the Castle

I had a fun day out in Cardiff with a friend from university today.

We caught up on all the news and reminisced over a pot of tea and cake in Barker's Tea House in High Street Arcade.

When we wandered through Castle Arcade, she could see the gravitational pull the secondhand bookshop was having on me, and suggested we go in and have a browse. Five books later, we left.

It was a pretty wet and grey day, so we decided to go on a guided tour of the castle. Before it started, we had time to walk the walls, which had been used as a bomb shelter in World War II. This was the warden's room.

It was great to peek out and get a different perspective on a city we both know well.

After the tour of the castle, we went to an Italian place for some lunch and then did a little bit of shopping, before she left to catch a train back to West Wales and I caught the bus back up the valleys.
