Ephiphany
Love this wise man in the nativity scene at All Saints Maybush. Today we remember the arrival of the magi. The first sign that Jesus was for all not just for the Jews. These foreigners travelled many uncomfortable miles to bring him gifts which declared him king. I've been thinking about my rule of life again. I'm rubbish at the discipline of daily prayer. I want that close relationship with God but I don't seem to be able to put myself out a bit for God. St Benedict talks about paradoxes in life and the need to balance them. A house divided against itself cannot stand. There has to be a balance. I'm being pulled in two different directions. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. The balance is all wrong. My heart is divided ( between sleep and God!). The contradiction of the cross holding vertically towards the father and horizontally towards the world brings light out of darkness and life out of death. (De Waal,E, Living with contradiction (2003) p25,26).
My paradox is much more easy to balance.
