In Praise of a Grey Day

Rainy, dark and gloomy today!  I took Dolly for her walk a little earlier than I do normally as I had plans this afternoon, and the park was deserted.  It's more typically full of life, especially on weekends - football matches, skateboarding, children in the playground, dog walkers, tennis matches.  But today Dolly and I walked around the park with almost no one in sight.

But somehow I just couldn't be gloomy about today.  Maybe it's because we've had plenty of crisp sunny and even relatively warm days this winter.  How can we appreciate those beautiful days if we had them all the time?

I lived for a number of years in Colorado - known not only for its stunning mountain scenery, but also for the terrific weather - a dry climate, very little rain and more sunny days than many Florida cities.  Don't get me wrong - I loved it - almost everyday was beautiful.  But sometimes I just longed for a dark and rainy day, if for nothing else than to have a reason to stay indoors and actually get some things done!  I also missed the verdant fields of a temperate climate such as England's.  You certainly wouldn't see green grass like this in Colorado!

So I will not complain about the grey days - unless we get a steady stream of them, of course!

This is a particularly attractive corner of the park - I always love to see this pretty house - but I sure wouldn't want the job of cleaning it!
