Weddings and Funerals
On the same day our greater rowing community we honored a great man, Stanley Pocock, the son of the most famous George Pocock who hailed from England, who came here where class was not an issue and built boats and a stellar reputation (a key character in Boys in the Boat, a hugely popular book) and which Stan carried on - winning 8 medals as coach for Olympics, designing first ever prototype for fiberglass shells and much else.
Then a wedding of two national team rowers/national/college team coaches at our lovely and traditional Olympic Hotel - a lovely event and full of rowers young and old - so a day full of generations and how we pass the baton on and forward.
It is a privilege to have blundered into this sport some 20 years ago and to have a place with such great people. And it is always so crazy to see your tights and knits clad crews and rowers decked out in city and evening clothing! Healthy people dress up well for sure!
