Dr Bell's

Dr Bell has a nice Wiki page which will tell you all about his life and  achievements. 

Notably he developed the cheap and cheerful Madras School of teaching where, instead of hiring a full teaching staff, older children passed their lessons onto younger children through a 'monitor' system. 

Apparently he was a careful man who accumulated considerable wealth.

The school is now a family centre and a listed building.
