Solomon's Seal

Another plant I love which has just started flowering in the garden, and loves the rain!! Which we have had more of today!!

The botanical name is Polygonatum Biflorum.

It is an old cottage plant, that flowers in Spring, producing graceful, arching stems with precisely paired oval leaves along their length.
These are quickly joined by dangling, green-tipped white bells.

It has been used by herbalists and healers for hundreds of years for a numerous conditions.

The name goes back to Hebrew lore, when King Solomon was granted great wisdom by the Gods, and had a special seal that aided him in his magical workings.
King Solomon himself placed a seal upon this plant when he recognised it's great value.
(Those with imagination can see the seal on the rootstock in the circular scars left by the stem after it dies back!)

It has been used for centuries to heal wounds, repair damaged tissue,bruises, and knit broken bones; relieve dry coughs and tuberculosis; treat chronic dysentery, diarrhea and hemorrhoids, among other diverse uses.

In A.D.130-200 , the most famous physician of his day, Galen, recommended the use of Solomon's Seal root to remove freckles, spots and marks for fresh, fair and lovely skin! Must try it!

I didn't know any of this before today, when I thought I would find out about it for my blip!!
Sounds like a wonder cure for a lot of things! Wonder if the NHS use it?
