Water of Leith
Edinburgh's wee river burst its banks a few years ago and a massive flood prevention programme ensued. The residents of Warriston Crescent (Chopin stayed there!) lost some garden but gained new walls and a promise of future safery.
On the old Warristton Rd wall, the mosses and lichens remain an indication of age, clean air and river dampness.
