Motherwell Mill
Originally a water mill built in 1880 situated not in the heart of the country but a short walk from Motherwell town centre and the massive steel works that was Ravenscraig.
Converted to residential use in 1978 and subsequently to a hotel and restaurant.
The last miller was George M MacGregor who faced with a changing industry diversified into keeping hens and selling poultry equipment. Eventually this also proved uneconomic and business activities ceased at the mill around 1976.
George MacGregor's other interests were the arts and he was a founder member of Airdrie Arts Guild as well a a poet of some distinction and in 1975 published a collection of his poetry named 'Occasional Verses'
