Taking off
I did rather over-indulge in the parsnips and was a long time living with regret.
Somewhere out there is one terrified child, I had only meant to be nice after she had said loudly (children never speak quietly) 'there's a nice lady, there's a nice lady' as I got on the bus. As I got off the bus and passed her I leaned over to her and said, 'there's a nice wee girl'. Not sure why but I seemed to have scared her to death. Poor wee lass, so sorry.
Last night Donald returned to his home and the first thing he did was to make a hot water bottle for his bed to get it cosy. It grew late and he had an early start to think of and so he got ready for bed, pulled back the sheets and to his great surprise saw only a small bottle of fizzy water. The hot water bottle, by now luke-warm, was still beside the kettle in the kitchen. Tears rolled from my eyes as he told me this over the phone and it took a long time for me to gather the equanimity for sleep. My mind just kept conjuring up the image.
